Behind the Fabric — Donegal Yarns

Donegal Yarns, based in the rugged hills of southwest Donegal, carries on a long-standing tradition of Irish textile craftsmanship. With roots in hand-spinning that date back centuries, the mill has played a key role in producing authentic Donegal Tweed — a material known globally for its distinctive character and quality.

What makes Donegal Yarns immediately recognizable is the fleck — small bursts of color woven into a heathered base, originally produced by blending raw, undyed fleece from local sheep of varying shades. At Norse Projects, our use of Donegal fabric draws directly from this heritage. The cloth is dense and tactile without being heavy, and it develops a particular patina with wear that no synthetic process can replicate. It is a material that rewards time.
